About Me
I have been a strong advocate of theatre and the arts in public schools ever since I was a young girl discovering the joy of performing for the first time in third grade playing the title character in Cinderella. I have continuously been involved in the arts from that point all the way through college in which I received my bachelor degree in theatre performance from MTSU in 2007.
After my first stint in college, I took some time off to tour with an international Christian musical group as their lead dancer and have some new experiences outside of my comfort zone. I also took about a year to learn ballroom dance as an instructor in Brentwood, TN. After a couple of years of performing, learning, and teaching the arts, I decided that I wanted to make teaching theatre my main focus. So, I went back to school and received my Masters from Lipscomb University in 2011. I joined the Oakland High School family as a Theatre 1 teacher in 2013 after teaching English and Theatre down in Manchester, TN for two years. Last school year, 2015-2016, I toke on the extra responsibilities of teaching the Theatre 2 classes and the Musical Theatre class along with our resident choir director extraordinaire, Mr. Clark. This year, I am lucky to also be taking on our Theatre 3/4 and IB Theatre class, along with sponsoring the International Thespian Society here at Oakland. |
Theatre Background |
I have been involved with the theatre community every since I was an eight year old girl playing Cinderella in my third grade play. Throughout high school, I was involved in both my school and community theatre performing in such plays as: State Fair, Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella, Grease, Dr. Jeckyll No Place to Hyde, among many others.
In college I extensively studied theatre with a major in performance and a minor in design/tech. I focused the majority of my attention in college on the tech side with several credits in set design including for the plays Oklahoma and Ramona Quimby. After college, I toured with the Christian musical group The Continentals as lead danceron a world tour that included much of the United States and performing for a sold out show of over three thousand people in the Philippines. |
My Favorite Things
|
When I am not teaching or directing theatre, some of my favorite things are: hanging out with my husband, Philip, our new daughter, Lorelai Joy, and our dog, Pooka; hiking; reading; being super crafty; and in the winter time- snowboarding!
